Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has ignited speculation about launching a new meme coin with a recent post on X. The discussion quickly gained momentum after CZ revealed that he owns a Belgian Malinois rather than a Shiba Inu, fueling rumors within the crypto community.
Did CZ Tease a New Meme Coin?
The speculation started when an X user asked CZ if he had a pet. His response—confirming that he owns a Belgian Malinois—immediately caught the attention of the crypto world. Soon, discussions about naming the dog, sharing its picture, and even creating a meme coin in its honor took over social media.
Curious about the process, CZ posed a rhetorical question to his followers:
“Do people really create a meme coin the moment I share my dog’s name and photo? How do we determine which one is ‘official,’ or does it even matter?”
While assessing the responses, CZ humorously added:
“As always, I’ll take a day to think about this important decision. Should we involve my dog, or respect its privacy?”
He also hinted at how such a token might interact with the existing BNB Chain meme coin ecosystem.
Meme Coins Emerge Despite CZ’s Skepticism
Even though CZ himself hasn’t launched a dog-themed meme coin, the community moved fast. A token named Binance Dog (CZDOG) surfaced and skyrocketed to an $8 billion market cap within just five hours, marking a 109% surge.
Despite not being an advocate for meme coins, CZ has acknowledged their influence. Back in November 2024, he expressed his stance, stating:
“I’m not against memes, but meme coins have reached a rather bizarre stage. Let’s focus on building projects with real-world blockchain applications.”
More recently, he reiterated that he has never personally invested in meme coins. Addressing the rise of TST token, which gained traction after being mentioned in a BNB Chain educational video, CZ clarified that TST is not an official BNB Chain project.
As Turkish NY Radio continues monitoring developments, the question remains: Will CZ eventually give in and embrace the meme coin hype?
