In a Monday update, the famous hip-hop hitmaker Sean John Combs, nicknamed Diddy, hired a new legal counsel, Alexandra Shapiro, to represent him in court. The singer was arrested early last month for serious sex abuse and criminal charges.
Profiled as hip hop superstar, Combs boasts of a thriving music career backed by the influential brand. The singer joined the billionaire list in 2022 and owns a fast-paced entertainment company, ‘Bad Boy Entertainment.
Diddy Hires New Defense Lawyer
Despite being a famous singer, Combs has been on the regulator’s watch since March when the law enforcers raided his properties in Los Angeles and Miami. The raid occurred when Diddy was away, forcing the police to conduct independent investigations.
The law enforcers accused Combs of breaching the law and engaging in several sex abuse cases. The police stated that the singer used his fame and power to coerce women to engage in sex parties. The disgraced singer was also charged with bribery, kidnapping, prostitution and forced labour.
The police noted that Diddy’s misconduct not only breached the law but caused emotional and sexual damage to women. Among the women mentioned included his former lover, Cassie Ventura, and many others.
In November, Ventura filed charges against Combs for sexual abuse. She claimed that Combs forced her to take part in freak-off parties and engage in unwilling sexual acts. Despite the severity of Ventura’s charges, the court settled the matter at the unmentioned amount, setting Singer free.
Will Court Release Diddy on Bail?
As the case unfolds, Combs faces a list of criminal charges, forcing him to expand his defence team and hire an experienced lawyer to fight for justice. Shapiro has a thriving career in legal advice and professional guidance.
In his previous role, she represented embattled investor Sam Bankman Fried in court for involvement in the collapse of the Bahamian crypto exchange.
The new lawyer will work closely with Anthony “Tony” Ricco, Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, who will defend Combs in court for the criminal charges. Besides representing their client’s interest in court, the defence team will seek court bail.
In his previous arraignment, Combs denied all the claims. His defence team argued that the accusation was aimed at damaging their client’s reputation.
After a lengthy court proceeding, a bench of judges denied a $50 million bail after prosecutors found it risky.
The court report shows that the judges profiled Comb as a threat to the witness, and releasing him might have tampered with the evidence. They instructed Diddy to remain behind bars, waiting for further legal trials.
Community Reacts to Diddy Arrest
A source privy to the information confirmed that Combs is serving his jail at Brooklyn Detention Center, where the former FTX boss is locked. The source confirmed that Combs and SBF had been in talks under anonymity.
Even though it’s still uncertain whether the two had spoken, it seems SBF recommended Shapiro to Combs. Surprisingly, as Diddy’s case makes the headlines, Combs’ inner circle remains quiet on the situation.
Having mentored a number of American singers, it remains uncertain whether his friends were aware of Combs’ misconduct. Speculators have expressed concerns about why Diddy’s closet ally Jay-Z has distanced himself from the troubled singer.
Others claimed that some A-list American celebs might face criminal charges similar to Combs . On the other hand, critics believe it is important for celebrities to address social issues that affect individuals in the same field.
With many unanswered questions, Combs’ case might have legal implications for the music industry, forcing artists to comply more with the law. For more updates on how the Combs case will unfold, follow TurkishNY Radio on Tumblr, Telegram and LinkedIn.
